The Glamour of Italian Fashion at the V&A

Calling fashion lovers everywhere!  Don’t miss out on one of the hottest tickets around this summer- the much anticipated exhibition ‘The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014’.  Running from 5th April – 27th July 2014 at the V&A  this exhibition is a wonderful combination of style, culture and design with over 100 pieces by Italian designers on show.  And, although fashion will be the main focus of the exhibition, it will also include cultural references.   The 1953 film that introduced Audrey Hepburn to the world, ‘Roman Holiday’, will be a welcome indulgence for all those who loved her style.

Talks, workshops and interviews all form part of the expo and one in particular that shouldn’t be missed is a ‘conversation’ with Amanda Triossi, jewellery historian and curator of the Bulgari Heritage collection and Sonnet Stanfill, the V&A curator of this event.  Bulgari is the lead sponsor and jeweller to the stars, designing many of the world’s most coveted gem pieces; including an emerald necklace once belonging to Elizabeth Taylor.

Another supporter of this extraordinary showcase is Nespresso – yes, those lovely coffee people – who are reinforcing their commitment to quality, craftsmanship and artistry.  Commissioning Creative Director, Orsola de Castro, of eco-luxury brand, From Somewhere, to design something that emphasises their support to fashion, was a touch of genius!  Orsola created a very special dress for the event using Nespresso’s colourful, recyclable coffee capsules.  So, if you’ve ever wondered what to do with yours …   However, it did take 200 hours, 600 capsules and one very skilled team to complete the ‘bespoke’ gown.

Nespresso is very proud of its pledge to reduce its carbon footprint and since 1991 capsule collection systems have been introduced all over the world.  In the UK there are collection points in Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and London.

Get your creative juices – and coffee buzz – flowing by immersing yourself in this wonderful exhibition.
